Empowering Global Access to Space

Atlas modernizes satellite communications by offering a system that is both more advanced and cheaper than competitors’ offerings. Atlas’ advanced technologies allow for satellite owners and operators to:
- Communicate with multiple satellites simultaneously during a single session.
- Seamlessly transfer and process data that reduces latency from up to twelve minutes to eight seconds.
In addition, the company’s satellite systems are approximately 1/10 the cost of competing options. The result is an easy-to-use satellite communication system that eliminates headaches for owners and operators.
Atlas grew 3446% from 2019 to 2020, earning its place as #102 in Inc. Magazine’s 2020 list of fastest growing companies in America. This ranking represents a significant accomplishment for Atlas, given that in 2019 it ranked #2,413 on the same list from Inc. Magazine.
Atlas Space Operations was acquired by the parent company of Denver-based York Space Systems. York’s parent company is the Florida-based private-equity firm AE Industrial Partners. The transaction closed on August 29, following FCC approval. Atlas will maintain its existing identity, branding, and name with Atlas CEO Corey Geer continuing in his current role.

Why We Invested
While satellites and rockets get a lot of attention, ground communication is essential. There are a number of reasons why we had the confidence to invest in Atlas Space Operations. Primarily, Casey Cowell, who is a member of our VCapital Advisory Board, serves as the Executive Chairman. Casey was the co-founder and former CEO of U.S. Robotics which was acquired by 3Com Corporation. Many Atlas employees are former military and Northrop Grumman employees and the company has a number of U.S. government contracts plus a pipeline of significant size. Atlas is the only U.S. company that is engaged in updating legacy hardware and software for the space industry.
